Earth Hour 2011: Setelah 1 Jam, Jadikan Gaya Hidup

Earth Hour 2011 yang diusung pada tahun ini adalah sebuah gerakan penghematan energi yang tidak hanya terbatas pada pemadaman alat elektronik yang tidak terpakai, tetapi juga dianjurkan untuk melakukan kegiatan ramah lingkungan yang lainnya, seperti Bersepeda, Menggunakan Transportasi Publik, Menanam Pohon, dan lain-lain.

Earth Hour adalah sebuah kegiatan global yang diadakan oleh WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature, juga dikenal sebagai World Wildlife Fund) dan diadakan pada Sabtu terakhir bulan Maret setiap tahunnya yang meminta rumah-rumah dan perkantoran untuk memadamkan lampu dan peralatan listrik yang tidak perlu selama satu jam untuk meningkatkan kesadaran atas perlunya tindakan terhadap perubahan iklim.

Earth Hour dicetuskan oleh WWF dan The Sydney Morning Herald tahun 2007 ketika 2,2 juta penduduk Sydney berpartisipasi dengan memadamkan semua lampu yang tidak perlu. Setelah Sydney, banyak kota-kota lain di seluruh dunia ikut berpartisipasi pada tahun 2008.Earth Hour 2011 akan dilaksanakan pada 26 Maret 2011 pukul 20.30 sampai 21.30 waktu setempat.

Pada event Earth Hour 2010 sebanyak 126 negara ikut berpartisipasi dan pada tahun ini, Earth Hour 2011 sudah terdaftar 220 negara sudah menyatakan kesediaanya untuk ikutan, termasuk Indonesia tentunya.

Khusus untuk Indonesia, Jika pada hari-hari biasa Monumen Nasional (Monas), Jakarta Pusat, selalu bermandikan cahaya lampu, pada 26 Maret mendatang selama satu jam mulai pukul 20.30 hingga pukul 21.30 aliran listrik di pusat rekreasi kebanggaan warga Ibu Kota itu akan dimatikan. Selain Monas dan listrik pada air mancur dimatikan, masih ada empat simbol Jakarta yang dipadamkan selama satu jam, yakni Bundaran Hotel Indonesia beserta air mancurnya, patung Arjuna Wiwaha depan gedung Indosat, Patung Pemuda di Senayan, serta Gedung Balaikota.

Sebagai gambaran bahwa untuk seluruh Indonesia dalam waktu satu jam pada gerakan ini, bisa menghemat energi sebesar 811 megawatt atau setara dengan mematikan satu pembangkit listrik Tenaga Nuklir untuk menerangi lebih dari 1600 desa dan mengurangi pemakaian 267,3 ton karbon dioksida.

Lalu apa peran kita selaku Blogger?.... tidak ada salahnya kita ikutan untuk berpartisipasi dengan ikut mematikan listrik pada jam tersebut, tentu saja tidak online jadinya.... Namun bukan cuman hal itu yang kita bisa perbuat.
