A 91-year-old driver was lucky to escape injury after crashing his car into a neighbour's home at Beaumaris, in Melbourne's south-eastern suburbs.
Emergency services say that he hit the accelerator instead of the brake while he was trying to park.
The car careered across the road, up the neighbour's driveway and crashed into the verandah.
It was a shock for home owner Marlene Holmes.
"I was sitting on the couch was going to have some tea and all of a sudden I heard this bang, crash and I thought the verandah had collapsed or something," she said.
"I came outside and I've lost half my house."
Metropolitan Fire Brigade (MFB) spokesman Darren Seymour says the home was extensively damaged
"He [the driver] is very lucky. He probably drove 50 metres without hitting anything before he's come across the road," he said.
"I think he might have been in a little bit of shock and froze and then he's come across and run into two pillars holding up a verandah."
