Firefighters have praised the bravery of a man who went into a burning house to rescue a toddler at Mulgrave this afternoon.
The woman living at the house on Wanda Street was alerted to the fire by a smoke alarm, and managed to escape with her two young children, but then found one boy had returned to his bedroom.
She flagged down a passing motorist, who ran into the house to rescue him.
The officer in charge at the scene, Commander Brendan Angwin, says the man did a great job.
"He stopped and gained entry to the front of the house and made his way to the bedroom and pulled the child out which was a very brave and courageous act by him," he said.
