A family of five has managed to escape an early morning fire, which gutted a home at Rowville in Melbourne's south-east.
The fire investigation unit will sift through the remains of the two-storey home to determine what sparked the blaze.
Rowville CFA captain John Farrah says smoke detectors alerted the family to the danger around 3:00am (AEST).
"[The] young family was all out safe basically through the sound of smoke detectors," he said.
"The house was totally destroyed, so it was a fairly intense fire and it took on fairly quickly."
He says at one point there was concern for one missing person.
"But luckily the person that was reported missing turned up at a friend's house," he said.
