Melbourne pianist claims national title

Melbourne concert pianist Daniel de Borah has claimed the top prize in the Australian National Piano Award.

Eleven contestants competed in the biennial event in Shepparton.

Competition adjudicator Betty Vergara-Pink says it was pleasing to see young pianists display a strong understanding for the classics.

"The younger ones are maybe are likely to be a just little bit more hot-headed and the older ones are likely to be a little bit more mature and maybe have a bigger repertoire," she said.
