A fire which extensively damaged a two bedroom unit in Melbourne's north-west last night has been deemed suspicious.
Fire fighters were called to the blaze on Henry Street at St Albans around 10:30pm (AEST).
James Clark of the Metropolitan Fire Brigade (MFB) says no-one was home at the time and they had the fire under control within seven minutes.
"When we arrived on scene the flames were billowing out of the front of the premises and the powerlines at the front of the house were also arking flames and it was undetermined if anyone was inside the building," he said.
"We got hose lines onto the fire very fast and did an internal attack as well, so fortunately saved the rear half of the building," he said.
The fire was contained to the front of the house but the remainder of the unit was extensively damaged by heat and smoke.
