Councillor arrested over social media posts

A Shepparton councillor charged with blackmail has faced court for breaching his bail conditions.

Milvan Muto was arrested on Wednesday after police took issue with posts he made on a social media site under a pseudonym.

He is on bail after being charged with blackmailing a council officer following a police investigation into the alleged bugging of a council meeting room

Police say Councillor Muto told them he was unaware the posts breached his bail conditions.

He was not penalised.

He is banned from attending council meetings until the charges are heard and is due back in court in November.
