John Elliott runs for Melbourne council

Melbourne businessman John Elliott has announced he will be in the running for the city's mayoral contest.

He will run for deputy mayor, on a ticket with pollster, Gary Morgan, at next month's elections.

The former Carlton Football Club and Liberal Party President says he and Mr Morgan believe the position of Lord Mayor should only be held for one term.

The pair will be up against Robert Doyle, who is seeking re-election.
